My experiences
18th March, 2008The past few days have been up and down, side to side, and generally all over the place. Despite an apparently smooth crossing of the Drake’s Passage, there were some victims of the dreaded sea sickness. And unfortunately I was one of them. However, today we arrived at King George Island which was a great relief. The journey hasn’t been without its pleasures. We’ve had several aerial displays from circling albatrosses, were visited by humpback whales a couple of times, and today, the icing on the cake was the sight of our first iceberg. And what a sight it was – truly spectacular!!
Whilst we were sailing past King George Island, we were treated to a view of the E-base. Then during dinner, we were asked to go outside onto deck. And there, on top of the Ebase itself were all the 7 expedition members who have been enduring trials and tribulations of surviving on renewable energy for the past 2 weeks.
As we were settling back down to dinner, we had such a surprise as Robert Swan made an unexpected appearance! He’d travelled over on a Zodiac to say hello to everyone! He stayed for an hour or so before setting back across the water to spend his last night in the E-home.
