Roy Luo Rui joins IAE 2008
17th February, 2008Roy’s initial thoughts on climate change…
Though I have not experienced the natural negative impact of climate change where I live, I can feel the unusual winter condition where I study and where my home city all these couple of years since 2002. Beijing is becoming warmer while Chengdu’s winter is chilly to bone comparing old times. : I can feel very frequent discussion amongst my family members about those snow disasters to city and rural infrastructures in Sichuan province. The extreme weather which destroyed farm yields leads soaring price of the daily expenditure regarding to those even normal vegetables and meats. Also the public transport systems in Southern China were heavily broken down because of big snow, south students who study in Beijing and other north area could not get back home for spring festival.
I’ve seen the dramatic change of climate spread from government and academic level , to forward-thinking business sector, then to mass of people in public, civil society, campus, media…etc. I meet new friends and experts in climate area every day, and I observed the climate pro-active prevention concept is gradually put into their thinking patterns. Though there is only a small portion compared to those interested in stock market, “climate consciousness” is becoming one of the inevitable concerns to our daily life.
