St Patrick’s Day
18th March, 2008Today is St. Patrick’s Day. I celebrate not for the holiday, but for the fact that I can get out of bed for more than 2 minutes! I spent all of yesterday in bed very seasick. The seas were calm compared to what they could be, but for me, the seas were like a continous rolling earthquake! I was taken care of by my wonderful cabin mate who brought me bread, bread, and some more bread. I was able to eat lunch today, but at the end, we ran from the dining room and saw our first iceberg! It was brilliant. At first, it seemed as if we were going straight for it, but of course we did not hit it and we watched it go along side of us. We have also seen whales today, and many birds. We are excited as the time comes to meet the advanced team at Bellingshausen. We arrive tonight. Tomorrow, we take the Zodiac boats to shore and we will spend about 10 hours on land!

Hi Ms. Gediman,!!! We are reading your posting and looking at others, too and checking out the pictures! What an experience! Ellie says she misses you! Anjali wants to know what temperature it is? Marina wants to know if you have seen any penquins? Nick wants to know how many seals you have seen? Isabella wants to know what types of whales have you seen? A Back (Andrew) wants to say he misses you! Connor wants to know if you can swim with the seals? Rachel wants to know how you are feeling , are you better now? Write more later, going to ART Love, 2G (P)

Hello Wendy,
We are so excited about your expedition! I am sorry about your sea sickness but you called right from the start. It’s in our blood. All I have to do is look at a boat and I get sick! I am so proud of you. I have been giving daily updates about the expedition to everyone I know and Kyle has been monitoring the web page as well. We are looking forward to more tomorrow. Love Howard, Laura, Kyle, Ella Marie (soon!) and Molly

Hi Wendy,
Sorry about the seasickness, but I bet the whales and the icebergs are pretty cool. We are having very cold weather for this time of the year, they are even predicted snow in the north, but I am sure nothing like the cold you are in. Keep the messages coming!
Jim
