Hey, guys & gals! Aunt Missie’s Flat Stanley here. Oh, right…that’s Melissa Outlaw’s Flat Stanley. I made it home to my Ryan & all the kids in Mrs. Hayes 1st grade class at Hunter’s Bend Elementary School in Franklin, Tennessee. They sure were excited to see where I’d been & to see the pictures of me playing Hide-N-Seek with the penguins. They also thought the ice bergs were pretty neat & loved the fact that we had classes outside with all the cool snow. We don’t see a lot of snow in our neck of the woods. They couldn’t believe the waves that pounded the boat on our return trip. All in all they thought it looked like a pretty great trip & had lots of questions for me. I’m all for a Flat Stanley reunion. What do you Flat Stanley’s think of that? I guess we could be nice & invite everyone. Nice, heck. It wouldn’t be the same without everyone there. If someone can organize it please be sure & let Melissa know & she’ll get the word to me. Or you can email me at kendeck (at) comcast (dot) net Maybe our makers could come, too. I’m pretty sure my Ryan would love it. Take care everyone. I sure enjoyed meeting you all.
Ryan & Aunt Missie’s Flat Stanley!

March 31st - My 2nd day back at work and I feel like I need a zodiac to pick me up and take me on a new adventure (how about it jumper?). My alarm clock isn’t the same as Team Inspire, Team Inspire, Team Inspire - amazing how 2 words can bring back such wonderful memories. The trip seems like it was weeks ago even though i have viewed the video and the pictures at least once a day!
It was great to meet everyone and think it would be great to plan a reunion in the future (hint hint)
Miss you all, Melissa Outlaw

Hey Nicola Sorry I haven’t got a message to you sooner. Looks like you’re having the experience of a lifetime!!! Love the comment on the smelly penguins. Took Esme to Brownies tonight and she said ‘Daddy’s doing well looking after us, cooks nice meals, keeps the house tidy, does the washing etc etc…..’ So her review was rather good!! Did make me smile bless her. You’ll be home soon and I can’t wait to hear your stories and how you got on!! Must do a girly night out soon after you get back. All our love…. Dusty and the Girls

To Rob and all the team, Mark, Nicola and Russel from npower and my old friend Marcus,
By now many of you will be on your way safely home. The experience, even from this distance, sat here in Oxfordshire, appears to have been extraordinary and the telling of it will excite and inspire all those lucky enough to hear you speak of your personal journey. I’m sure the experience will also deeply affect the way that you think about so many things and I can hardly wait to hear about it all.
Thank you for sharing your experiences so dramatically through the web site, travel home safely and we all look forward to the telling.
Best regards, Andy

Just a heartfelt note of gratitude to Burgerville Restaurants, in the great American Northwest, for making such a huge contribution that provided for the participation of students Meghan King and Emily Ziegler. These lives have been transformed due to that generosity.
Also, the Zieglers are indebted to Mr. Peter Hobart, Esq., of Pennsylvania, for his guidance and advice.
Our families are now much larger.

Hi dear one….It’s coming to a close…Can’t wait to hear, but also know that it will be hard for you to “talk” about the deep experiences you’ve had…Be kind to yourself coming back. It will be a major culture shock to be back in any kind of civilization….especially Sao Paulo!! You’ve really had a “vision quest” experience and that takes processing over time to really know what it all means to you…..So thrilling that you had this opportunity. Love to you….we’ll be communicating soon I’m hoping….Mom

Hi there! Not sure you have heard latest news, Reuters reports that Slab of Antarctic ice shelf collapses amid warming Tuesday WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Satellite images show that a large hunk of Antarctica’s Wilkins Ice Shelf has started to collapse in a fast-warming region of the continent, scientists said on Tuesday. The area of collapse measured about 160 square miles of the Wilkins Ice Shelf.

Lauren, Lauren: Greetings to you , as you begin the northern portion of your adventure, crossing Drakes Passage, (recall the Drakes BAY, in Marin and Drake High School and Drake everywhere in Marin, however he had to manuever the lower part of the south American continent, as you are doing… Time has now passed to the extent that the Expedition is now behind you as a memory to last and last…..so, after your Brazilian detour, its on up north to the lower east side, and everyone knows where the lower east side is…..love tom

Meghan Since you have not had an opportunity to respond to Maggie’s messages, Mom and I have decided to go to the party to go in your place. What do you think? Dad
Jim King Mar 25, 2008 // 10:44 pm
Hello Meghan, What a way to spend Easter! When we were your age we looked forward to going to the beach at Easter. How does it feel to be finishing a trip of a lifetime? Your experience over the past 2 weeks is what most people can only dream about. The friends you have made from around the world will always be special. Without question, it will be beneficial for everyone to have an opportunity to appreciate what the team members have experienced during the venture. This will always be a special time and place for you. It would be interesting to know how many people’s lives the team members will positively affect as a result of this trip. Mom and I look forward to you sharing the details when you return home. Hopefully, you have many great pictures to share. We are pleased you had this opportunity. Dad
Jim King Mar 25, 2008 // 10:23 pm
Nick Whitfield…I liked the Antartica competition that you ran at our school. It’s cool following your trip on the internet. We hope you come and talk to our school when you are finished your trip and bring lots of photos. It looks awesome.

Hi IAE 6 team. It sounds as if you have been truly inspired by an amazing adventure, the stunning Antarctic scenery, the incredible wildlife, the lote training, and Robert and his team. As lots of you are saying, it is now time to be the change and to come back and create positive, sustainable change in your homes, schools and workplaces. Sharing your Antarctic story is just the beginning. You have been inspired. Now it is time to walk the talk and make it happen. Good Luck, everyone. Richard Dunne, member of IAE4 & IAE5 teams.
Richard Dunne Mar 25, 2008 // 3:59 pm
Hey Meghan! You must not be getting my posts because I asked you to write more and you haven’t…..so rather than think that you are purposely ignoring me, I am going to chalk it up to the fact that you either didn’t read my posts or that you might be sort of busy. No more exciting updates here. I was just going to let you know that I am really jealous of your trip. I know you are probably laughing at me because I thought you were crazy for wanting to go to Antarctica, but I really am jealous. The pictures that I have seen really are pretty incredible. So, you win. You were right. I won’t make fun of you anymore. Oh yeah, our party is going to have probably about 50 people so it should be really fun. I really hope that you aren’t still planning on going to that wedding. This will be way cooler.

Vi er stolte av dere. hi meghan. this is dr. patton. your dad was up at office today and we were talking about your experience. this is so cool and i am so proud of you for what you are doing. what in life could ever be more important than saving the world. you know that may seem like an impossible task but at one time going to the moon seemed impossible also. when i think back to the days of you and virginia running around on the soccer field it just blows me away to see what incredible adults all of you have become. we miss you all so much as our little children but we know that the world will be in such good hands now that all of you are adults. we may have not done such a good job by getting us into this mess. i know that you and your peers can rescue us. by the way. i am trying to help with the energy crisis by riding my motorcycle instead of driving a car all over the place.. 50 miles per gallon. have a great trip and as always you are in our thoughts.

Hello to the ‘customer teams’: Reginald, Sabine, David, Mark, Lenny and Ahsun! I hope you are having a fantastic time. It brings back memories to see your expeditoin on the website. I hope that you have found inspiration from your trip and from your fellow expeditioners and have some excellent initiatives we can work on together when you get back. (More work now preparing for selling your ideas internally, whilst you roll and pitch across the Drake Passage, means less work later!) Wishing you a safe return, Jake.

Guy F.

Hello Jumper and All……………….. Am still enjoying the photos and vids but am realising the importance of it all after reading the daily diary entries of the team…..Have been South to see the baby and was trying to explain to a 3 year old what it’s all about as together we watched the whales and seals….. He wanted me to read all the words …… now he nags his mummy and daddy to switch off lights and he runs to the kitchen when they make tea to check how much water we are boiling…….was quite strange how he seemed to absorb some of the little bits that I read out to him…… Apparantly he’s doing it at play school too…….So now there’s a playschool teacher in Essex logging on to this site to keep up with his questions. Keep safe XX XX

Hi Emily, As we entered church for the Easter service, the questions of the day were… “Have you heard from Emily this week? Is she safe and warm? Is she well? Is she enjoying the adventure?” Our response to it all, “Absolutely!” Even though we strongly felt your absence during the holiday festivities, we were so thankful that you and the team had the rare opportunity of spending this day in such a glorious place. As a by-stander, reading all the messages and watching the extraordinary videos, it is an honor to get a glimpse of a magnificent story unfolding. Please take great care on the journey home. We are so anxious to see you, hear every detail and learn how to create a “greener” world! We love you, ~Mom and Dad

Hey Meghan! I don’t know if you are reading my posts but I thought I would just keep updating you on what is going on here in the Ham. Anna has lost her mind. After her great date with andew case, melissa and james set her up on a blind date with their friend Mark. So, now anna is juggling both mark and andrew case and is loving every minute of it. I am still rooting for andew case. I have officially moved into anna’s house so you can find me over there. Katie and I went to pick up stuff for the awesome party on saturday (that we are expecting you to be at) and we realize we have a lot to do for it. Wallace weighs 32.5 pounds and looks huge. Katie got a wii and it is really awesome. Holly’s yacht is apparently awesome and we are going to have fun at sarah’s bachelorette (which is a week from this upcoming saturday and we are expecting you to be at as well). Don’t freeze to death! And send us some updates!!!

Hi Marcus, Its Easter Monday and snowing. We pour over this website constantaly reading everyone’s entries and everyone’s messages in order to feel as close as possible to your experience. The sprinkle of snow helps and I’m one step away from turning off all the heating (tho we dont have your merino base layers. Nor the whales to distract us). The videos are fabulous; very moving and very exciting. Hope Rob is well after his extraordinary 18 day sojurn. Please say hi from me. We are all longing to see you on Thursday and are missing you very much. xxxxxxc PS Quins beat Bristol with a bonus point win. Do you still care or is the Stoop too remote for now? xc

Hi Susannah,
Easter at Dixie’s with the usual hubbub. Was nice to get out of the city. Have the third and final interview for the Loeb Fellowship today. Some last minute wrangling and contract negotiations with Lauretta, who seems like she is going, but concerned about insurance for her equipment in Peru. Expect to see her there. John is handling. Missing you very, very much. And so happy that we are on the last leg of this journey. You are positively heroic and I can’t wait to hear you talk about your experiences down there.
Much love, Edward

Dear Lauren….Not sure whether to leave messages here or under your blog , where one can leave comments. I saw messages there from Cindy and Alison, but not my messages. Mine are on the message Board. Anyway…what I wanted to say was I realize that while this technological link is great, I DON’T want you to be spending your time on the computer writing or reading messages when you could be just being there in the present moment experiencing all that is there!! That’s the most important thing! Thinking of you all the time….Sending love…Mom

(If you vomit to take COCA-COLA to recover the levels of glucose and I liquids. Mistie and I will just have to make the best of it on our own I guess, ha! You are so blessed to have such a wonderful job, I understand why you love it so much. You are in the middle of another one of God’s Wondrous Creations. Enjoy every single second of it. Wouldn’t it be fun to color penguin eggs for Easter? Ha! O.K., I’ll behave myself. Shame on me. Please get some good pictures of you so that I can frame them, o.k? Proud of all that you are doing, keep up the good work. Stay warm, dry, and safe. Remember, momma loves you. Momma P.S. I tel de dagen. Stimabo hopi Michael xxxx

Hi Sus, enthralled by the ice collapse.
Two from barthes for you before bed:
“Photography is subversive not when it frightens, repels or even stigmatizes, but it is pensive, when it thinks.”
“The photograph must be silent…Absolute subjectivity is achieved only in a state, an effort, of silence.”
Much love and missing you enormously, Edward

Heartiest congratulations to Robert and the IAE8 Team. It is easy to be overwhelmed and to do nothing. Your committment, and action inspires others to act. Also, an exciting and thrilling adventure that confirms the resilience and talent we all have but rarely draw upon. Please make sure your results are not a secret and let the world know there is a way through. If it can be done in Antarctica then there is hope that we can change the way we live in this fragile world that we share with nature as you are seeing on a grand scale in Antarctica. Stay warm, stay safe and Happy Easter from us in Australia, the closest continent on earth to Antarctica. Our love and best wishes to Robert and the entire IAE8 team Christine Gee and Bryce Courtenay

Emily Anne… First thing each morning, we anxiously sit in front of the computer following your progress, reading your words and checking the weather at your most recent location. Of course, we repeat this process continuously throughout the day. It is fair to say that we are living vicariously through you! The local paper is doing a wonderful job carrying your story. We have had numerous calls from family, friends and interested well-wishers who we have never met. Your insight to this part of the world is captivating to us all. We look forward to hearing every detail and viewing each picture. Your awe-inspiring experience will change many lives. Happy Easter, Em! It is a day of praise and thanksgiving. We love you. ~Mom and Dad

Meghan King: Your friends here in sunny Alabama would like for you to update your blog more often. And, I don’t know if you have a camera there or not (it might instantly freeze when you take it out of the case) but if you do, I need for you to take a picture of a seal, penguin, and a whale for me. Thanks. Also, we added you as a host for Sarah’s party. We figured since you aren’t even on the same continent as us, we had the authority to make that decision. So there. Oh yeah….I hear Fall Out Boy is performing in Antarctica (no joke) on March 23rd. They want to be the first group to play on all seven continents. Just giving you a heads up so you can beat the crowds and get tickets :) Hope you don’t get frostbite! Can’t wait until you get back! … Maggie

URGENT MESSAGE FOR DAVID LICHTNEKER !!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Dave,
Tony has asked me to ask you to give him the details of the other AKZO members’ login details for their blog, so that he can update them. They are eagerly awaiting photos and are very disappointed that this has not happened so far, when it was promised to them. I realise that this is not your fault ofcourse. So if you could speak to someone who can enable you to send photos through as well in order to keep the AKZO website up-to-date, they would really appreciate that.
As always, missing you, lots of love from Rianda, Gabriella and Max
