Jiz od prvniho dne mi bylo jasne, ze to, co zaziji v nasledujicich dvou tydnech nezapomenu dokonce sveho zivota… ze mi tato cesta neprinese jen poznani dalsiho kontinentu, ale i mnoho zkusenosti a informaci, ktere budu moci vyuzit ve svem profesinalnim zivote.

Prvni dva dny jsme stravili na cestach do Ushuaia, nejjiznejsiho mesta Argentiny. Vetsinu cesty, kterou jsme stravila v letadle jsem prospala, takze mi cesta utekla jak voda. Nezapomenu na setkani s ostatnimi cleny naseho tymu v Londyne, navstevy muzea a cokoladoveho baru v Harrods, par hodin v Buenos Aires v zimnim obleceni pri teplote 25C atd.

Dalsi dva dny jsme prozili v Ushuaia a ke konci ctvrteho dne se nalodili na lod, nase prvni kroky smerovali do kajuty, ktera byla pridelena me a Annice ze Svedska…Prvni pohled smeroval na dvoupatrovou postel v nasi male kajute…pote prisla prvni noc stravena na lodi, vsichni jsme se oblepili naplastmi, ci polykali prasky proti morske nemoci a jen cekali co prijde…Ja patrila mezi ty, kteri zvladli noc, ale dopoledne uz tak slavne pro me nebylo, tak jsem se uchylila ke spanku do kajuty, nastesti odpoledne bylo pro mne uz priznivejsi a dalsi noc jsem stravila v poradku.

Dnesni den, tj. 5ty den expedice nam vsem prinesl nezapomenutelny zazitek…nejprve v podobe kouzelnych velryb a nasledne prvni obrovskou krou…nelze zapomenout na pocit vzruseni, kdy nas mistni rozhlas upozornil, ze jsme se priblizili k prvni kre, ktera nam jasne rikala, ze se priblizujeme k nejstudenejsimu kontinentu na svete. Vsichni zamirili na palubu a fotili a fotili…

Lunch on the 17th was interrupted by an announcement over the loud speaker, “There is an ice burg portside.” At that moment the restaurant emptied and everyone filed to the deck to take a look. It was my first ice burg and I will never forget. It was taller than the ship and about as big. It was white (of course) and the most beautiful blue. It seemed as though it sat motionless, more like a large white rock than a floating piece of ice. The waves seemed to flow around it and over time had carved arched ridges near the waterline. Our ship drove around it and everyone on board took pictures. As a conservative estimate, I am guessing each person took an at least ten pictures of the ice burg. This gives close to 700 images of that single piece of ice!!

There are empty hours, but far from meaningless, for as they pass, they define the journey till now; the ultimate investment on time! Much time on your own, heading south to the last frontier of the world, inspires you thinking & reconsidering many things; especially what is important for you & maybe the whole world – but really important. Being in the middle of Drake Passage, you get pretty close with almost all expedition members - people from all continents with so many different backgrounds, cultures & characters. Everyone having to give you something. Another unique about this expedition is that you are really sealed off the rest of the world (no phone, no e-mail, no visits, no mail). Like your real life is put on pause. SOF TE ECHO MUCHO DE MENOS

Gisteren zijn we aan boord gegaan van de Ushuaia – ons thuis voor de komende dagen. Ik heb toch maar een pleister tegen zeeziekte op gedaan. Die zou voor 3 dagen moeten werken. Het weer toen we aan boord gingen was fantastisch – zonnetje, blauwe luchten en geweldig uitzicht. De eerste dag in de Drakes passage: ik lig eigenlijk alleen maar in bed, dat is de beste plek tegen zeeziekte. Gelukig blijft het weer prima, zodat de zeeziekte problemen niet al te erg zijn. De tweede dag is nog beter, ik kan gewoon opstaan, rondlopen en eten! Misschien helpt die zeeziekte pleister toch nog! Vandaag ook onze eerste walvissen en ijsberg gezien. Wat een geweldig mooi gezicht. Ik heb een paar mooie fotos van de ijsberg, alleen de walvissen zijn wat moeillijk te fotograferen (heb het maar niet verder geprobeert). Morgen gaan we voor de eerste keer aan wal – vandaag al een veiligheidstraining gehad: hoe in en uit de zodiac te komen en wat te doen als je in het water valt (beter van niet). Morgen wordt vast een geweldige dag! We blijven 10 uur aan wal en gaan op bezoek bij de e-base en een pinqui年 kolonie.
