Adios Argentina

15th March, 2008

The sun is shining over the Beagle Channel as our team sings “Happy Birthday” for Delando, today´s birthday boy. Some of us have spent the first part of the day hiking while others have taken the opportunity to do some last minute shopping in the fantabulous city of Ushuaia. After a nice photo session on the dock, we gave a last farewell to our U.S. office, represented by Anne and Tiffany before boarding our new home. We were given a warm welcome by our international crew, who were nice enough to show every one of us the inside of M/S Ushuaia´s life rafts. As this is being written, our team is assembling in the dining area for tonight´s vegetarian feast, and we are all ready to take on the infamous Drake Passage. Thanks to expedition leader Peter´s new satellite toy, we can now post our updates from the ship! Stay tuned for news about our adventures across the Drake Passage

And we’re rolling…

The big day is finally here, and we’re ready for action. The first web conference with Bellingshausen went well, Robert and his team tells us they are looking forward to meeting the rest of the expedition members. Tomorrow morning we’ll have a web conference again, this time with all the expedition members present! We are experiencing some flight delays, but most of the team members have now arrived at the hotel. The members’ kits have been checked, and team leaders are excited to try snacks from around the globe, including beef jerky from Texas and maple syrup cookies from Canada. The team is looking great, our equipment is all in fine working order, and the glacier hike tomorrow is hopefully going to be a great start to a great expedition.
