Excited to get to Antarctica

18th March, 2008

So far, the food and atmosphere have been excellent. Everyone’s health is back to 100% after the terrible day on Sunday. Many people feel refreshed after sleep through the night.

Peter showed the weather report for the next 4 days. Things look very promising. Berenice gave more information about protecting and not disturbing the wildlife in Antarctica. She also informed us about getting in an out of the zodiacs. Jumper, Knut and Trond demonstrated the proper clothing as well as what to do in the event that one of us falls out of the zodiac at sea.

It’s been almost 48 hours since we embarked on the ship. Everyone is excited to finally get to Antarctica. We want to see the changes in the topography. Tomorrow we will meet up with Robert and see the eBase in action. It should be exciting!

Delando Hawthorne joins IAE 2008

Delando’s initial thoughts on climate change…

I think we’ve all felt the need to be more environmentally conscious in our actions and the choices we make. I really don’t believe that government can solely address the issue. I strongly believe that we, as individuals and consumers, must demand more from government and corporations. For instance, some industries i.e. Food & beverage, may be required to indicate the carbon footprint of their products on the packaging.
